President Biden, still reeling from a disastrous debate and calls to step aside, delivered a speech at a black church service in Pennsylvania on Sunday, acknowledging that “the world is watching America.”
Speaking from a podium at the Mount Airy Church of God in Christ in Northwest Philadelphia, Biden, 81, dismissed concerns about his age, joking, “I know I look 40,” but “I’ve been doing this a long time.”
“I have honestly never been more optimistic about the future of America if we stick together,” Biden said.
The President later in his speech also addressed the upcoming NATO summit in Washington, DC
“I’m about to receive the NATO nations in Washington. We’ve brought them together,” Biden said. “The world is looking to us. No joke. The world is looking to America, not to carry their burdens, but to lead their hopes.”
“When I first ran for president, I said something fundamental. I said, we have to bring dignity and hope back to America, number one,” the president added, concluding his speech.
“Secondly, we have to give the working class and the middle class, like the family that I come from, a chance and build the economy from the middle out and from the bottom up, not from the top down,” Biden said. “And thirdly, we have to unite America again. That’s my goal. That’s what we’re going to do. God bless all of you and God bless our troops.”
